Crystal Crate & Cargo will host a free tasting of “Grandma’s Hot Fudge Sauce” on Saturday, February 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dark chocolate sauce recently came to market through the participation of its creator in Grow Benzie’s “Starting Your Own Food Product Business” workshops. At the same time, we will be demonstrating the Cuisinart commercial quality ice cream maker, what a winning combination!
Tracey Scheifele had her grandmother’s fudge sauce recipe and made it for family and friends. After
hearing “you should sell this sauce” for years, she saw the announcement about Grow Benzie’s series
of classes this past fall and signed up. The eight-part series covered subjects from labeling and
packaging to insurance coverage and wholesaling.
Scheifele was able to quickly get her product out before the holiday season through the use of Grow
Benzie’s commercial incubator kitchen. The nonprofit’s 1,600-square-foot commercial kitchen in
Benzonia offers work space at reasonable hourly rates to small food production businesses that don’t
have their own licensed facility, as well as the expertise of kitchen manager, Lisa Richter Manrow.
Crystal Crate & Cargo’s February 8, 2014 event will give shoppers a chance to taste the sauce that is
described by its creator as “making life sweeter one spoonful at a time.” The product is sold in two
sizes and is packaged in a distinctive jar with a waterproof label and tiny silver spoon attached.
Crystal Crate & Cargo is located in downtown Beulah, which is open year-round seven days per week.
